Part 1: Value and Self-Esteem; How Self-Esteem is Built and Broken
“Self Esteem is built in stages of our lives and influenced by the people we value most” Richard Fincke
“When our self- value has been broken or damaged we must rebuild our value like blocks in a wall, one block at a time.”
Self-Esteem is the measure of the value one sees in them based on their life experiences and the messages an individual receives from the people in their lives whose opinions and views matter most.
** What do you suppose are some causes for a broken or lowered self-esteem in an individual or your own life experience?
- Mixed messages from father/mother
- Rejection from siblings, family, friends, neighbors
- Criticism from others
- Shameful feelings
- Being pushed aside / left out / not belonging
- Lost sense or no sense of purpose
- Lack of Acceptance
